'Mahindra & Mahindra' wants to be the world's largest tractor maker by 2010.

Mahindra & Mahindra wants to help to till more fields all over the world. That's because it wants to be the world's largest tractor maker by 2010. It sold 85,000 tractors last year, making it the fourth largest tractor maker. And it's moving ahead.
Keshub Mahindra, Chairman of M&M says, "We are moving forward in any case ourselves technology-wise and market wise. For instance, we'll be putting up a plant in Africa. It won't be an acquisition, but a partnership."

Africa and China will be crucial realising M&M's dreams. It is eyeing a second acquisition in China. That would help it to strengthen its position in China, which uses a lakh geared tractors a year.

And M&M is also considering new partnerships in its car business. It has a joint venture with Renault and another with Navistar. And more alliances may be on the way.

Even so, M&M's wasting no time in launching the Logan, which Keshub Mahindra says, will be out in March. From tilling more fields to driving more passengers, M&M can clearly see its road to globalise its businesses. Source: moneycontrol.com

Yenisei-858 combine received golden medal at "Golden Autumn-2008" exibition

Rice harvester "Yenisei-858" was awarded with a golden medal and a first-degree diploma at the big agricultural exhibition "Golden Autumn-2008" in Moscow. Other novelties made by enterprises of OJSC Agromashholding received high awards too.

Caterpillar tractor "VT-200D" with rubber reinforced caterpillar tracks (made by OJSC Volgograd Tractor Plant) was awarded with a golden medal and a first-degree diploma in the nomination "tractors for different purposes". Engine "D-130T" made by Vladimir Engine Tractor Plant received a silver medal and a second-degree diploma in the nomination "engines and electric power installations".

"LTZ-140" tractor was awarded with a diploma of the general information sponsor of the exhibition CJSC Krestianskie Vedomosti Media Group in the nomination "Best agricultural innovation in Russia".

OJSC Agromashholding was also awarded with Grand-Prix of the exhibition "Golden Autumn-2006" in the nomination "for contribution into the exhibition development". Rice harvester "Yenisei-858" with rubber reinforced caterpillar tracks - a novelty of Krasnoyarsk Combines Plant - received a golden medal and the first-degree diploma in the nomination "combines". The upgraded model of caterpillar combine "Yenisei-858" was first exhibited at "Golden Autumn-2006" this year.

This combine was designed on the basis of "Yenisei-950" for use at overwet soils, where wheeled combines cannot be used or their use is restricted. In comparison with steel caterpillar tracks, rubber reinforced ones are lighter, which supplies greater maneuverability to the combine. Experts and guests of the exhibition assessed one more advantage of the new harvester highly: double-drum threshing device, which ensures careful threshing.

At present Krasnoyarsk Combines Plant is the main manufacturer of rice harvesters in Russia. "In 2005 Agromashholding sent 108 rice harvesters to Amur Territory, Primorski and Krasnodar Territories, Rostov Territory and Kazakhstan. Practice shows that demand for this harvester is growing constantly, and its technical characteristics meet the requirements of our clients," President of OJSC Agromashholding Natalia Partasova said at the exhibition opening, "So in 2007 we are going to make and send more than 200 rice harvesters to manufacturers."

John Deere has introduced a guidance solution

John Deere has introduced a guidance solution for older vehicles and select model headers in the Green-Star AutoTrac Universal Steering Kit.

"Now we're offering an automatic guidance solution for your harvesting equipment," John Deere product development division manager John Henchy said.

The AutoTrac Universal Steering Kit will make it possible to run assisted-steering systems on John Deere and Case Axial Flow combines, with additional brands being tested for approval.

This is a great way to improve driver operator effectiveness and alertness during the long hot days of harvest.

"And at the same time improve hourly productivity by being able to consistently use the full platform crop cutting capacity."

AutoTrac Universal Steering Kit is the mobile automatic guidance solution from John Deere that functions on many different vehicle platforms and with a choice of accuracy levels.

Customers can leverage the investment in AutoTrac across more equipment in their fleet year around.

What's more, customers have the opportunity to increase the productivity of their older equipment and even non-John Deere equipment by incorporating the AutoTrac Universal Steering Kit into their operation.

More than 300 models of tractors, sprayers, windrowers, combine harvesters, and other vehicles are planned to be approved for Auto-Trac's Universal Steering Kit in 2006.

For harvest, kits will be available for John Deere 9X00, 9X10, 9X50, 9X60 and Case Axial Flow models.

"A customer who makes an investment in AutoTrac today will be able to use the GreenStar components and the AutoTrac activation for future approved vehicles," Mr Henchy said.

Tractor drivers have destroyed a unique archaeological site

Tractor drivers of the agricultural producers` co-operative Zavety Ilyicha have destroyed a unique archaeological site Olenya Gora (Deer's mountain) in the Novgorod Region. Shocked specialists noted that the drivers turned up the soil on the territory where archaeological excavations were held and inflicted irreparable damage to the occupation layer of the site.
At the present moment the unique settlement of the 14th century is turned into plantings with ceramic fragments sticking out of the soil here and there. Specialists are now thinking whether it's possible to compensate the damage caused by the tractor drivers.
