10 Antique tractor plowing at the Living History
Farm
10 antique tractors turned over the soil on the Southeast Minnesota
Living History Farm, 2 miles south of Spring Grove during Antique
Tractor Plowing Day. Two other tractors disked and dragged the newly
turned soil, and yet another was available to give rides to
spectators.
"I counted a total of 14 tractors," James Gulbranson, SMLHF board
president, reported, adding, "I helped set up the plows - clean,
grease and scour them."
Tractor owners and drivers included - from Spring Grove - Vernon Roble,
Daryl Rud, Mark Rud, Bjorn Rud, Edward Myrah, David Alstad, Anthony
Gulbranson, Jerry Kraus, Donald Ranzenberger, Conrad Curren, Adrian
Moen, Jerry Kampschroer and Jed Wohlgemuth; Larry Olson of Caledonia;
Mark Reimann and son Alex of Lanesboro and Mark Hackman of Decorah.
Various tractor models participated in the event, including Farmall H,
Super H - built in 1953, Farmall 30, 350, 450, and MTA; John Deere A's
(one built in 1936), JD B, JD B (1937); McCormick W-6; and Oliver 77.
There were eight two-bottom plows and two were three-bottom models.
Steve Harmon firred up Greg Wennes' steam engine, and it blew off
steam and its whistle as it traveled across the corn stalks in the
field that was being worked. Since it has rubber over the lugged steel
wheels for road travel, this huge - iron horse was not used this day
for plowing, but it was used to provide power to run a circular saw
for Log Sawing Day, Oct. 21, at the Living History Farm.

Farm.
